HMS Ark Royal R09 was a Royal Navy aircraft carrier that was in service from 1955 to 2011. The ship saw action in several conflicts including the Suez Crisis, the Falklands War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was named after the flagship of the English fleet that defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588. The ship was 210 meters long and could carry up to 50 aircraft. In 2011, it was decommissioned and replaced by the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy.
